The Northern Terminus

11″ x 14″ – Acrylic on Wood Panel

On numerous occasions, I would often see hikers in Grants, NM. And I would often wonder where they were going…

My experience in hiking has been minimal; twenty five to thirty miles from Laguna to the town of Grants, hiking through rainforests on the coast in Washington State, and so forth.

One day I was saw some hikers at a small Chinese restaurant in Grants..I asked them where they were coming from. They said near Mexico and they were headed towards the Canadian border. They were on the “CDT” or Continental Divide Trail. They told me this was one of the most difficult trails out of the three. Three?! The Pacific Crest Trail, the CDT, and the Appalachian Trail.

After we said our goodbyes; I tried my best to look everything up on these trails. Yes. The CDT is most difficult. Some hikers take it in sections depending on the terrain while others do the whole hike.

If a hiker completes all three trails; it is called the Triple Crown.

Can you imagine….
